Job Overview:

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Ward Clerk to join the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team. This role is crucial for providing front-line reception services to the ward, ensuring high-quality customer care to a variety of individuals, including patients, their families, and clinical staff. The post holder will handle administrative tasks such as admitting and discharging patients, maintaining patient data integrity, and offering general support to the ICU team.

You will work on a part-time basis (33.5 hours per week) with a rotating schedule of three days on, three days off, from 8 am to 6 pm, including some weekends. This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months, covering maternity leave, with the possibility of extension to 12 months.

Main Duties:

Provide a front-line reception service to the ICU ward, ensuring customer satisfaction and resolving any queries from patients, visitors, and staff.

Admit and discharge patients using the Trust Patient Administration System (PAS).

Operate the security entry system to the ward.

Offer emotional support to patients’ families and relatives, particularly when dealing with distressed individuals.

Ensure patient records are ready for discharge and that discharge letters are sent to GPs within two working days.

Maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times, especially when dealing with sensitive issues.

Support ward administrators by performing various clerical tasks and ensuring the smooth running of the ward.

Requirements:

Essential:

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification.

GCSE in English and Maths (or equivalent).

Experience in a patient-facing role (e.g., customer service).

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Good computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases.

Ability to manage time effectively and handle busy environments.

Flexible and adaptable to changing needs of the service.

Desirable:

Experience in a healthcare setting.

Familiarity with Cerner or similar Patient Administration Systems.

Salary:
The salary for this role is ยฃ29,485 – ยฃ31,088 per annum, inclusive of HCAS (pro-rata for part-time hours).
