Job Overview:
The position is for a Band 5 Staff Nurse in the Stroke & Neurology department at the Royal Free Hampstead. You will be working in a multidisciplinary team on Ward 6 South, which is a 30-bedded unit providing care for patients with various neurological conditions and those requiring rehabilitation after an acute stroke. The unit is a regional specialist center, receiving referrals from across the UK and internationally. Some patients require specialized care such as tracheostomy and CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), with full training provided in these areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care using appropriate care frameworks.
Administer medication safely and support patients with medication adherence.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, therapists, and senior nurses.
Ensure high standards of nursing care in line with Trust and CQC guidelines.
Coordinate and support other members of the care team in delivering nursing care.
Monitor the quality of care and report any incidents or concerns.
Participate in the education and development of patients and their families, as well as in team teaching sessions.
Assist with the discharge planning process for patients.
Undertake additional duties as delegated by senior staff.
Qualifications & Experience:
A Degree or Diploma in Nursing and must be a Registered Nurse with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council).
Previous clinical experience in an acute hospital setting is essential, especially in managing acutely ill patients.
Ideally, applicants will have experience working with neurological or stroke patients, but this is not mandatory as training is provided.
Mentorship or post-qualification in a relevant specialty is desirable.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team are crucial.
Additional Information:
The role involves both day and night shifts (37.5 hours per week).
The salary ranges from ยฃ35,964 to ยฃ43,780 per annum, including HCAS (High Cost Area Supplement).
Visa sponsorship is available for applicants who require it to work in the UK.
