Job summary

The post holder will support the deployment and implementation of the Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement model (AEQUIP).

Working under the management of the Professional Midwifery Advocate, the post holder will be a visible role model developing, delivering, and embedding Restorative Clinical Supervision (RCS) in collaboration with other Professional Midwifery Advocates and clinical teams. The PMA demonstrates that they can act, link academic learning with their practical settings and experiences and develop their practice skills to support colleagues to improve the capabilities of the midwifery workforce.

Main duties, tasks & skills required
  • Demonstrate an awareness of diverse ethnic, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds and needs of patients, members of the public and staff.
  • Actively promote and maintain confidentiality whilst adhering to information governance guidelines.
  • Ensure that accurate and contemporaneous records relating to the deployment of AEQUIP are maintained. Keep accurate records of PMA activity.
  • Contribute to the content of and lead on the design of documents and teaching aids.
  • Provide reports regarding AEQUIP deployment as requested and present in forums as required.
  • Collate audit data to report on activity, compliance, and effectiveness.
Clinical support:
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise and maintain competence in clinical skills.
  • Establish and maintain professional and therapeutic relationships, and effective communication with patients, visitors, and work colleagues.
  • Collaborate with and support teams to develop and improve services and deliver safe, compassionate care through regular RCS.
  • Actively support the supervision, development and coaching of individual staff so that they may function effectively within their role and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate inspirational, motivational, and visible leadership in the workplace.
  • Support change in clinical area(s).
  • Work as a role model promoting psychological safety and situational awareness in own practice.
  • Maintain a clinically credible and visual profile within clinical departments.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife on the NMC register.
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of post registration CPD / Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to masters level equivalent.
  • Evidence of completion of degree level study (level 6)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Experience

Essential

  • Recent significant post registration experience working at a senior level in a clinical area for the NHS/healthcare setting.
  • Relevant and recent clinical experience within a care environment, including the supervision, education, and pastoral support of colleagues.
  • Evidence of ability to revalidate with the NMC.
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development & competence.
  • Experience in mentoring, facilitating groups, and coaching others.
  • Experience in the delivery of RCS
  • Ability to lead on the development of teaching resources and deliver programmes to promote a learning environment.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management
  • Ability to support reflective practice.
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Application and understanding of professional policies and procedures.
  • A sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and processes.
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development & competence.
  • Experience of being a PMA/ mentor / preceptor.
  • Experience in the delivery of RCS
  • Evidence of post registration study and personal development.
