Job Overview:

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust seeks two Clinical Specialist Sonographers on a fixed-term basis (up to 37.5 hours per week) to cover maternity leave. The role is integral to the Trust’s ultrasound services across various units, including the main ultrasound department, Antenatal Clinic, Fetal Medicine Unit, Acute Gynae, and Early Pregnancy Unit. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in advanced ultrasound practice, including obstetrics, gynaecology, and general medical imaging.

Main Responsibilities:

Deliver ultrasound services across different departments, focusing on patient safety and quality.

Support the management of ultrasound services in the Antenatal Clinic, Fetal Medicine Unit, and Acute Gynae and Early Pregnancy Unit.

Lead and coordinate the ultrasound team, ensuring efficient service delivery and high standards of patient care.

Conduct cross-site rotation between Barnet, Chase Farm, Edgware, and Hadley Wood hospitals as required.

Maintain and update patient records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Trust protocols.

Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and report findings to enhance service delivery.

Train and mentor junior sonographers and radiology students, fostering a supportive learning environment.

Person Specification:

Essential:

DCR or BSc diploma/degree in a relevant field or equivalent.

Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (PGDip) or equivalent DMU.

Registered with HCPC or a relevant professional body.

Demonstrated experience at Band 8a level, including ultrasound specializations (obstetrics, gynaecology, MSK, abdominal imaging).

Proficiency in PACS/RIS and Viewpoint systems for data management.

Ability to work autonomously, make prompt clinical decisions, and demonstrate resilience under pressure.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Track record in training, mentoring, and presenting audit findings.

Desirable:

Extensive experience in service development within the ultrasound field.

Experience with clinical governance and adherence to local and national policies.

Assertiveness, influence, and negotiation skills.
