Because of a key strategic development and a new exciting business opportunity, we have a requirement for a security-clearedย Database Administrator (DBA)ย based in the UK working at our client site and sometimes, remotely.
Our company has a long standing experience of developing and running some of the largest government systems in the world. We are currently hiring to expand our UK based technical team who develop and support our services for UK Government.

As a Database Administrator at,you will be an essential part of the wider business by being responsible for the performance, integrity and security of our databases.
Youโll be used to working on legacy relational databases and with technology such as SQL, while also having a keen interest in the potential move to more modern technology which in the longer term will be a potential learning opportunity in this role.
Youโll be part of our Global IT team that work collaboratively with developers and support staff across the business to deliver best-in-class systems used by the whole organisation.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator to manage and maintain our database systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the performance, security, and availability of our databases, while also implementing best practices in database design and management. This role requires a strong understanding of SQL, high availability solutions, and performance tuning techniques to support our growing data needs.
Job Objectives:
End-to-end support and maintenance of IT processes
Developing and maintaining our database maintenance plans
Monitoring performance of our databases and system resources
Troubleshooting and resolving database performance, connectivity and security issues
Planning and implementing database installations, upgrades, migrations and configuration
Following Change, Problem and Incident Management processes to implement database and interface changes
Proactively monitoring and responding to database and associated alerts on a 24/7 rota
Optimise SQL code as necessary
Job Role:
Data is at the heart of everything we do and with the number of tasks continuing to grow, demand on the data team is increasing every day.
This role is responsible for maintaining databases and utilizing our ETL tool to pipeline data into our data warehouse while ensuring data security and cleanliness. It will also entail troubleshooting issues between systems to understand and solve data discrepancies, enabling the wider team to produce accurate reporting.
We are looking for and enthusiastic and motivatedย Database Administrator, with high levels of security clearance, to join our growing team of IT experts in delivering high quality IT services to our government customer.
Review current ETL and data warehouse setup and work with the wider data team to make improvements, ensuring best practise is implemented

You will be providing enterprise operational database support and maintenance services to a complex range of imagery and geospatial system capabilities in a high availability operational environment. This role is within the live support team and primarily covers the maintenance of MS SQL Server 2016 & PostgreSQL databases in Windows & Linux environments across a multisite enterprise solution and involvementsupport where these databases interact or provide services to the wider software solution. This includes the maintenance and updates to Data Models and Data Definition Language as well as responsibility for database integrity.
You will need a thorough understanding of MS SQL Server 2016 and PostgreSQL database products. This is a complex and challenging role that will be highly rewarding, with extensive communication and interfacing requirements with multiple providers, agencies and Customer organisations.
The role also includes providing remote and on-site support. There is also a requirement to provide out-of-hours on-call support from time to time. You will be expected to contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation and, while primarily supporting the operational service, also be able to provide material to support change projects if required.
You will be responsible for:
Delivering a range of database administration tasks, delivered in a ITIL service / sec dev ops environment.
Ensuring systems remain โevergreenโ proactively supporting the services in multiple secure level environments
Working with delivery teams to onboard new features and functionality pushing to bridge the KT gap within an agile delivery model and ITIL service
ยท Design, implement, and maintain robust database systems to support business applications.
ยท Perform regular database backups and ensure data integrity through effective recovery strategies.
ยท Monitor database performance and conduct performance tuning to optimise system efficiency.
ยท Develop and implement data migration strategies using SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services).
ยท Write and maintain shell scripts for automation of routine tasks.
ยท Collaborate with development teams to provide database support during application development cycles.
ยท Ensure high availability of database systems through clustering and replication techniques.
ยท Conduct regular security audits and implement necessary measures to safeguard sensitive data.
ยท Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolutions to minimise downtime.
Who Do We Need?
We are looking for someone with excellent organisation, communication and leadership skills who has:
Experience in an ITILv3/v4 support enterprise environment.
Understanding of SecDevOps and or Agile delivery methodologies
Have experience working with databases, ensuring accuracy in data entry.
Be highly organised and able to manage their time well.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft programs.
Be confident working collaboratively with all teams
Experience with legacy database technology in a commercial environment such as Sybase
Extensive experience with database technology such as SQL
Experience performing manual tests on Windows based systems in an Agile environment
Excellent attention to detail, able to effectively track, report and resolve quality issues
Understanding of software specification requirements, and the ability to interpret acceptance criteria and derive tests accordingly
Experience testing the integration points between modules, applications and systems
Working with a customer/donor database. Providing support on a range of administrative tasks..
Excellent ticket/task management practices
MS SQL Server 2016 & PostgreSQL DBA experience in an Operational Support environment.
Knowledge of the change and operational release cycle, including Systems Integration, Development and Test.
Experience of IT architectures and the application of Software/Systems engineering principles within a secure IT environment.
A history as a proactive โself-starterโ, able to respond to complex situations with little oversight and asking for support from other technical experts as required.
Experience with MS SQL Server 2016 support, Windows Server, RHEL and VMWare environments
Occasional travel to customer sites may be required.

Develop and maintain database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for data sources and tables across the company.
Protect data by developing data security and restoration controls
Identify and implement database requirements for new or existing applications and partners by working collaboratively with other teams.
Support users and developers by resolving data-related technical issues and troubleshooting queries by guiding them with best practices.
Management of access to Google Analytics, Ads, GMC and SA360 to ensure security across the brands and territories.
ยท Proven experience as a Database Administrator with a strong understanding of SQL and MySQL databases.
ยท Proficiency in database design principles and best practices.
ยท Experience with SSIS for data integration tasks is highly desirable.
ยท Familiarity with shell scripting for automation purposes is an advantage.
ยท Knowledge of high availability solutions and performance tuning techniques is essential.
ยท Strong analytical skills with the ability to vaticinate potential issues before they arise.
ยท Excellent problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to managing database environments.
ยท Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being self-motivated to complete tasks independently.

What You Will Bring:
Bachelorโs degree or relevant qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
3+ years of experience in database administration or in a similar role.
Familiarity with SQL database querying and relational data models
Experience in database backup, disaster recovery planning, performance optimisation and data security.

Pay Range and Benefits:
Our company pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
