The NHS is seeking two highly credible and experienced Deputy Chief Nursing Officers (DCNO) to join the senior leadership team of NHS England. The DCNOs will lead distinct portfolio areas: one focusing on quality, safety, resilience, patient safety, and infection control, while the other will focus on children and young people, sustainability, productivity, and digital innovation.

As a senior leader in the NHS, the DCNOs will provide strategic policy development, implement quality improvements, and drive workforce development within the nursing profession. They will advise the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England Board, and government officials, shaping national health policy and driving systemic change.

The role requires executive-level leadership experience, strategic policy expertise, and the ability to make complex decisions under pressure. Successful candidates will play a key role in the implementation of the 10-year Health Plan for the NHS and shaping the future of nursing and midwifery in England.

Qualifications:

Masterโ€™s level education or equivalent experience

Doctorate and management qualifications desirable

Experience:

Senior leadership experience at Board level within the NHS

Proven track record of leading operational teams and large-scale programmes

Expertise in strategic policy development, quality improvement, and nursing workforce management
