Job Description

The Head of Cyber National Systems is a senior leadership role within the Joint Cyber Unit (JCU), a collaborative effort between the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England (NHSE). This role is integral to ensuring the cyber resilience and security of national health and care systems. As part of the Regulation and Response Team, the role focuses on the development and implementation of policies, assurance frameworks, and strategic initiatives to safeguard the health and care sector against cyber threats.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cyber Assurance Framework:

Establish and lead a new assurance regime for NHS national systems.

Monitor and report on the cyber security status of national systems to the National Chief
Information Security Officer (NCISO).

  • Strategic Leadership:

Engage with the DHSC, Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs), and other stakeholders
operating national systems.

Provide strategic advice to improve cyber resilience and secure data
sharing across the health and care sector.

  • Policy Development:

Develop and implement national strategies and regulations for
cyber security.

Contribute to the NHSโ€™s cyber response to incidents affecting
various sector components.

  • Collaboration:

Work closely with NHS Digital and the National Cyber Security Centre
(NCSC).

Ensure alignment with national policies and system requirements.

  • Stakeholder Management:

    Serve as a point of accountability to Ministers, Parliament, and NHS leadership.ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย Effectively communicate complex cyber security issues to both technical
    and non-technical audiences.
  • ย Essential Skills and Qualifications:

    Willingness to obtain ISACA Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification.Eligibility for Security Clearance (SC level), requiring UK residency for 3 of the past 5 years.

    Exceptional communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

    Demonstrated ability to manage workloads, make informed decisions, and resolve complex issues from multiple sources.

  • Desirable Skills:
