At the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, we’re seeking enthusiastic, motivated, and committed Band 6 ITU Nurses to join our temporary staffing bank. As a trust bank ITU nurse, you’ll have the flexibility to choose working hours that suit your work-life balance, working as part of a multidisciplinary team at either the Royal Free Hospital or Barnet Hospital.

You will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care to critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICU). The trust is known for its excellent clinical outcomes and provides an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge healthcare services, especially in specialties like hepatology, infectious diseases, and cardiac care.

Main Duties of the Job

Work shifts as a Band 6 ITU nurse in either Royal Free Hospital or Barnet Hospitalโ€™s intensive care units (ITU), caring for critically ill patients.

Provide comprehensive care for Level 2 or Level 3 patients, including those undergoing complex surgeries such as Hepatobiliary, Vascular, and Renal surgeries.

Support and guide junior nurses and students within the unit.

Deliver care for medical and surgical patients across a wide range of specialties.

Contribute to multidisciplinary team activities, ensuring the highest standards of care.

Act as an accountable registered ITU nurse with responsibility for patient care.

Maintain a safe and effective clinical environment conducive to high-quality care.

Engage in teaching and mentoring of junior staff.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

1st/2nd level registration

Intensive Care Course

18 months of post-registration experience

12 months of recent ITU experience

6 months at Band 6

Mentoring experience

Desirable Qualifications:

Mentorship Course

Essential Skills:

Ability to manage a group of ITU patients independently

Teaching and mentoring skills

Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and ability to maintain a safe clinical environment

Additional Information

Shift Options: The role offers flexibility with shifts including days, nights, and weekends, paid at competitive hourly rates. Long day and night shifts are paid at 11.5 hours.
