Job Overview:

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for an outstanding individual to join the Neurosurgery High Observation Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and dynamic nurse with excellent clinical and decision-making skills. The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated team that provides high-quality patient care in both spinal and cranial procedures.

As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will support the Charge Nurse and the nursing team in delivering the highest standard of patient care, particularly for patients undergoing complex neurosurgical treatments. The role includes supervising the nursing team, overseeing patient care, and deputizing in the absence of the Charge Nurse to ensure smooth operations of the unit.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Teamwork: Support the Charge Nurse in providing effective nursing leadership to the team. Ensure that the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct is at the forefront of all care.

Clinical Care: Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide individualized, high-quality care for neurosurgical patients, ensuring positive patient experiences.

Training & Development: Mentor junior nurses and provide support in their development. You will also be responsible for facilitating learning and clinical skills training within the team.

Supervision: Deputize for the Charge Nurse as needed, ensuring the delivery of high standards of patient care in a timely and efficient manner.

Quality Control: Participate in audits, quality control processes, and clinical governance activities.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

Registered Nurse with active NMC registration

Experience working with neurosurgical patients

Evidence of leadership skills and continued professional development

Ability to work effectively as a team leader and mentor junior staff

Experience of supporting and facilitating learning for others

Desirable:

Leadership Qualification

Experience in a managerial role within a Neurosurgical or Major Trauma Centre (MTC) environment

Experience in clinical governance, quality control, and audits
