You’re a laboratory professional with a keen eye for detail and an affinity for hands-on laboratory practices- just the person we need in the Anatomic Pathology gross room at Edmonton Base Lab! In your role as a Histology Assistant, you will contribute to the team by performing specimen acceptance, gross description, and dissection of surgical tissue specimens. A focus on quality assurance, critical thinking, and problem-solving is essential. We are seeking a reliable and efficient candidate with strong interpersonal skills. Duties include handling and preparing tissue for routine or specialized processing, performing specimen acceptance, grossing, specimen filing, discard, decalcification, and tissue processor loading, routine maintenance and troubleshooting of various lab instruments. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate. The consequential vacancy process may be used to fill any resulting vacancies.
Description:
As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will be responsible for pre-analytical specimen handling, transport, accessioning, processing and storage. You will also be responsible for responding to inquiries, cleaning, monitoring and preventative maintenance of lab equipment and work areas, maintaining common supplies, updating inventories and data sheets and participating in lab quality and safety requirements.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Proof of completion of Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent and relevant experience in Anatomic Pathology is preferred. Experience with EPIC-Beaker LIS is an asset.
