Job Summary:

We are one of the largest maternity units in the Midlands, delivering approximately 8,400 births annually to a diverse population. Our dedicated team includes over 400 midwives, 34 consultants, and a multi-professional staff of anaesthetists, sonographers, and neonatal experts.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Midwife for Quality Governance Assurance and Compliance to join our maternity services. The post holder will lead the multi-disciplinary governance team, ensuring the effective implementation of clinical governance across the maternity service. They will work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals to maintain high standards of quality and patient safety, ensuring compliance with national and local guidelines. The role requires in-depth knowledge of governance, assurance mechanisms, and the ability to develop and implement action plans based on national standards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead on monitoring standards across clinical governance, effectiveness, and patient safety within maternity services.

Work closely with the Head of Midwifery and the wider Maternity and Quality & Safety teams to implement governance frameworks, focusing on safety and quality.

Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with national and local quality standards, including clinical audit, risk management, and education.

Provide leadership and oversight to ensure all maternity staff adhere to governance principles, with a focus on safety and high-quality care.

Support the strategic and operational delivery of quality assurance, ensuring that all professional groups understand and practice good quality governance.

Drive continuous service improvement through evidence-based practice and quality assurance principles.

Qualifications and Experience:

Registered Midwife with current UK professional registration.

Master’s level degree in a related healthcare discipline or substantial experiential equivalence.

Recognised qualification in quality assurance, compliance, and governance, or relevant experience.

Extensive understanding of governance frameworks, quality assurance, and safety within maternity services.

Ability to analyse national standards and develop action plans for implementation.

Proven experience of leading clinical governance, risk management, and quality improvement projects.

Service development experience with a focus on clinical quality and successful service change.

Experience in both hospital and community maternity settings.

Skills and Abilities:

Highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience.

Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Leadership experience in formulating, disseminating, and implementing policies and guidelines.

Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Experience in clinical research and participation in external committees or forums.
