The Medical Secretary is responsible for planning and monitoring the daily organization of the clinic/office and providing secretarial support to the Physician in their clinical practice, academic and research responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to, answering of telephones and contacting patients; general reception duties; scheduling of patient appointments; liaising with other medical and health professionals to facilitate patient referrals; preparation of correspondence; letter transcription; transcribing clinical notes.

Regular Part-Time

Rate of Pay: $27.23 – $29.49 per hour

Hours of Work: up to 22.5 hours per week, no guarantee of hours

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a two year diploma in medical office administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the Hospital
    2 years of relevant experience required
  • Advanced computer software skills ? conversant with LHSC software, office tools, patient registration, scheduling program, etc.
  • Proficient Database management and advanced dictatyping skills
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology and OHIP billing procedures
  • Experience with office equipment operation
  • General bookkeeping and accounting skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and maintain accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Advanced ability to maintain confidentiality and be empathetic and sensitive to patient needs, as per hospital policies
  • Research skills and knowledge of academic institutions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to identify and bring forward to the physician, issues/items/ concerns
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC?s Vision, Purpose, and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

    Immunization Requirements:

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health?s current definition of being fully vaccinated
