Job Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Learning Disability Intensive Support Team at Leeds and York NHS Partnership Foundation Trust. The team works alongside community learning disability teams (CLDT) to provide intensive support to people with learning disabilities who may also have complex mental health or behavioral needs. The goal of the Intensive Support Team is to help people with learning disabilities remain out of hospital.
We are seeking a dynamic Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with individuals with learning disabilities. The role involves working alongside a multi-disciplinary team of Specialist LD Nurses, Health Support Workers, Speech and Language Therapists, and Psychologists.
The successful candidate will be part of the Occupational Therapy team and AHP community, attending regular CPD and training opportunities. Specialist training, such as Sensory Integration and Positive Behaviour Support, will be available to further develop your skill set.
Main Duties:
Work within the multi-disciplinary Intensive Support Team to offer a comprehensive service to individuals requiring specialist health interventions.
Develop collaborative relationships with service users and their families, addressing communication barriers to ensure engagement in the therapeutic process.
Manage a clinical caseload, ensuring clear communication with all individuals involved in the care of service users.
Provide high-quality occupational therapy interventions using evidence-based and client-centered principles.
Lead on occupational therapy delivery within the Intensive Support Team and contribute to the development of meaningful care plans.
Assist with the development of clinical interventions and the provision of training regarding functional skills and equipment needs.
Contribute to challenging cases and offer the occupational therapy perspective to multidisciplinary formulations.

Qualifications and Experience:
Essential Criteria:
Professional Qualification BSc/Dip/MSc in Occupational Therapy
At least 2 years’ experience in occupational therapy in a mental health or learning disability setting
A good understanding of the challenges faced by people with learning disabilities and challenging behavior
Full UK driving license and access to a car for work purposes
Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of Care Programme Approach, Mental Capacity Act, and the Transforming Care Agenda.
Person Specification:
You should be an enthusiastic and confident Occupational Therapist with a passion for working with individuals who have learning disabilities and complex mental health issues. This role offers autonomy in managing your own caseload and the opportunity to contribute to innovative service development projects within the Intensive Support Team.
