Production Engineer, Calgary
Reporting to the Manager, Production Engineering, this position will be an energetic self-starter, contributing to the success of MEG Energy by supporting day-to-day production management and optimization of our Christina Lake SAGD thermal wells.

Your Day to Day will include:
  • Stewardship of MEG’s priority on Health, Safety and Environment.
  • Daily monitoring of thermal wells to maximize production, recovery, and efficiency.
  • Analyze daily and monthly well performance, individually and with support from the exploitation team to develop operational strategies, trouble shoot well production performance and make necessary adjustments.
  • Provide support with day-to-day production management and optimization.
  • Manage steam injection and producing wells, including operation, risk analysis and optimization.
  • Utilize MEG Production Management (MPM) to execute well operation.
  • Provide on call support and coverage for production team during select weekends and vacation periods.
  • Review economics on re-activation of producing wells.
  • Provide completions support and coverage on new completions, workovers, and replacements.
  • Actively evaluate and review potential production opportunities within SAGD field (stimulations, new completions, re-drills)
  • Effectively communicate guidance to completions, operations, and field teams.
What you will bring to MEG:
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required, with a preference for Chemical, Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered with APEGA
  • A minimum of 7+ years oil field experience
  • A minimum of 5+ years SAGD experience is preferred.
  • Experience in the design and operation of SAGD wells is required.
  • Familiar with SAGD plant processes such as oil treating, steam generation and water treatment is required.
  • SAGD well automation, process control and optimization an asset
  • Effective communicator with the ability to promote cooperation and relationships.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and groups.
  • Ability to maintain composure and perform during stressful events.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in all seasons.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong multi-tasking, teamwork and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills considering interactions with industry peers, operations staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Must be proficient with computer software such as all Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision.
