Job Title: Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse – Clinical Haematology
Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced haematology nurse to join the Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH) team as a Sister/Charge Nurse. This role involves providing care to adults, teenagers, and young adults with various haematology conditions, including administering Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT), supporting stem cell transplantation programs, and managing outpatient clinics.

The successful candidate will have expertise in haematology nursing, SACT administration, and the management of central lines. Leadership skills are essential, as the role requires mentoring junior staff and leading quality improvement initiatives. The position also involves deputizing for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and overseeing day-to-day operations of the unit.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer and manage systemic anti-cancer therapies and stem cell transplant procedures.

Perform cannulation, phlebotomy, and manage central venous access devices (CVADs).

Mentor and support junior staff and student nurses.

Ensure clinical standards and patient safety align with trust and national guidelines.

Lead shifts and support departmental management, focusing on clinical governance and quality assurance.

Qualifications and Experience:

Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register.

Completed SACT passport with competency in SACT administration.

Significant experience in haematology nursing within acute care settings.

Proficient in cannulation, venepuncture, and CVAD management.

Demonstrable leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills.

Additional Requirements:

Experience with incident/complaint management and change implementation.

Understanding of NHS policy and clinical governance frameworks.

A professional portfolio showcasing continued professional development.
