Band 5 Staff Nurse – Pre-Assessment
Due to the ongoing development and expansion of the Pre-Operative Assessment Unit, an exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Band 5 Staff Nurse to join a progressive and dynamic team. This role operates in a challenging and busy environment, working within the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) as part of a specialist team assessing a wide range of patients before surgery.
The successful candidate will work autonomously, taking responsibility for assessing patients’ care needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programs without direct supervision. This includes managing a clinic caseload, ensuring patients are fit for surgery, and acting upon investigation results.
The role comes with robust support, including mentorship, induction, and access to further training such as clinical examination skills (heart and lung assessments) and the Pre-Operative Association Foundation Course. The unit is led by senior Sisters and a Lead Nurse, ensuring that all staff feel supported in their professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess patientsโ fitness for surgery and develop care plans.
Ensure high standards of professionalism and patient care.
Work collaboratively with senior colleagues to maintain patient safety.
Mentor and supervise others, contributing to team development.
Engage in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
