Job Overview:
The NHS is seeking an experienced individual to fill the role of Training Programme Director (TPD) for Trauma and Orthopaedics in London. This is a part-time position, requiring 1 session per week (4 hours). The role involves overseeing and managing the regional training programme, ensuring national standards set by the Royal College and local standards for Trauma & Orthopaedics are met. The TPD will work closely with the Postgraduate Dean, the Head of School, and other key departments to deliver high-quality educational training to doctors in the field of Trauma & Orthopaedics.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee the Specialtyโs Regional Training Programme.
Manage recruitment to training posts, postgraduate programme management, including assessments, career support, trainee management, and academic training.
Address trainee concerns, and support matters such as less-than-full-time training and inter-deanery transfers.
Work closely with the Postgraduate Dean to produce highly qualified, patient-centered healthcare professionals.
Collaborate with other TPDs, the LaSE team, and relevant NHS bodies to ensure quality and compliance with national standards.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Must be an experienced NHS Consultant with a deep understanding of Trauma and Orthopaedics training.
Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multi-professional team.
Demonstrated ability to influence and innovate within educational settings.
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications:
Fellowship with a College or Faculty or relevant professional association.
Attendance at courses aimed at supporting educational development.
Desirable Qualifications:
PG Cert diploma or Masterโs in Medical Education.
Essential Experience:
Experience working with learners or doctors in training.
Demonstrated leadership in clinical and educational settings.
Up-to-date with the appraisal process and recruitment practices.
In-depth understanding of NHS structures and workforce transformation.
Desirable Experience:
Previous healthcare education leadership.
Knowledge of funding streams for healthcare education.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong leadership skills, ability to motivate and influence others.
