This is an exciting time for the Trauma and Orthopaedics Clinical Nurse Specialist and Specialty Support Nurse Team at CUH as we have a new Band 6 post providing an opportunity for the right candidate to come and join us!
Our dynamic, motivated team of specialist nurses work across both inpatient and outpatient settings.
We aim to provide ongoing professional development and are proud of our in-house and local university education opportunities associated with this role. This clinically based role requires you to complete the Level 7 Advanced Clinical Assessment Skills university module with support from the Trust.
We deliver support and training and are a resource for both patients and staff including the wider MDT. We are responsible for managing the discharge advice line to triage and address patient concerns. We also facilitate teaching to patients in hip and knee classes and provide drop in sessions and bootcamps for staff of all bands to enhance their existing knowledge and clinical skills.
The trauma coordinator role specifically involves regular coordination and communications with theatre staff and surgeons to ensure a smooth journey for planned surgery. We coordinate all trauma activity in both inpatient and outpatient setting – arranging admissions from home and those in hospital and ensuring the patients are kept informed of any changes.
Main duties of the job
We work closely with the on call team on a daily basis to help support and plan any admissions that will need surgery and liaise with the appropriate surgical team for theatre planning.
We attend the daily trauma post take meeting and ward rounds to ensure we have a forward plan for new patients.
Part of the TNC role is to support clinics including the multi-professional virtual fracture clinic and update the patients following this.
The trauma coordinator role can be very busy though equally it is very rewarding when patients have a good outcome and can commence recovery for their injuries.
