Ensuring our online services are accessible and available to everyone, is a key priority for City of York Council, as more of our customers use digital media.

We’re looking for additional Web Officer to join our small but ambitious Web Team, as we continue to develop websites with a customer-focused vision, to provide a high quality and responsive services, using modern technologies.

Additional resource is sought during this busy time, whilst we integrate new software into our toolkit; the Web Officer role is key to achieving our goal.

Web Officer role will be varied and interesting; in addition to day-to-day’ responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a changing, dynamic and growing environment, on innovative projects.

We’re seeking someone with experience in designing, creating, editing, and managing engaging content, electronic forms, and user interfaces.

You’ll develop functionality that features user-friendly patterns and clear navigation, compatible with a variety of browsers and platforms, the outcomes will be cyber-secure and meet accessibility regulations, whilst giving customers an open door to council services.

We’re looking for candidates who have excellent attention to detail and outstanding communication skills. You’ll possess knowledge of content management and search engine optimisation. Experience with Microsoft, Adobe, Jadu, and Granicus software will be advantageous to ‘hit-the-ground-running’. The post requires strong HTML and CSS coding skills, with excellent syntax accuracy, and an ability to ‘write for the web’ in plain English.

A willingness to learn and develop, in addition to a positive attitude towards collaborative working, is essential; knowledge of local government would be helpful.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
