Katherine West Health Board

Job Description

Experience a unique opportunity to work in rural and remote places while spending a year in Katherine, NT.

Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service and Katherine West Health Board are partnering to offer GPs a flexible package which enables you to experience both rural and remote medical practice in a supportive team environment.

How it works

Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is an Aboriginal Medical Service providing care for patients in Katherine. Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Medical Service that provides care for patients living in remote communities in the Katherine West region. This initiative encourages GPs to sample both rural and remote work through experience in Wurli and KWHB clinics. You can choose an experience that suits you, with as much rural or remote time as you want.

What we offer

Wurli and KWHB offer very supportive environments. You are never on your own. Both organisations have strong primary health care teams and doctors are supported by experienced nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and allied health teams. We have strong educational support, and you will easily meet all your CPD requirements when working with us.

We offer salary-based packages-no longer a slave to Medicare! Doctors who work in Katherine and remote regions also qualify for the rural and remote incentive payment from the government.

These are permanent full-time positions that come with an attractive salary package circa $300,000, including relocation assistance and subsidised accommodation.

You will also have access to fantastic benefits, including:

  • No on-call or weekend work
  • Sick leave + six weeks of annual leave
  • Ongoing learning and development (including 10 days of study leave)
  • Relocation assistance on offer
  • Accommodation all provided
  • Work vehicle

Above it all, you get to work with a caring and supportive multi-disciplinary team that is truly passionate about the work they do.

The work involves a combination of acute care and chronic disease management across the age spectrum. There is no on-call or weekend work in either organisation. You’ll work closely with nurses and Aboriginal Health Practitioners as a valued member of the team.

KWHB cares for communities in Timber Creek and surrounds, Kalkaringi, Lajamanu and Yarralin. You will live in communities during remote rotations, offering a unique insight into remote living and opportunities for cross-cultural experiences.

Katherine is located about 320km south of Darwin and is the gateway to the north, south, east and west. There are so many exciting and beautiful things to see, do and experience in the area or on your way up to Darwin, across to Kununurra (WA) or down to Alice Springs or across to Mt Isa (Qld).
