The management team, led by CEO Dr Gordon Sanghera, has a track record of delivering disruptive technologies to the market.

Oxford Nanopore’s sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis (for rapid insights), in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths.

Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere. We offer real-time nanopore-based DNA/RNA sequencing technology: accessible, easy to use and fully scalable for any requirement!

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Protein Purification Team as a Research Scientist with a primary responsibility to engineer, express and purify enzymes for our disruptive nanopore sequencing technology.

The details…

Proteins form some of the most critical components of our technology. We continuously strive to improve and upgrade those components within our current sequencing technologies as well as develop novel functionalities to expand our disruptive platform. Working within a highly multi-disciplinary development team this primarily lab-based role will be focused on the expression, purification and characterisation of multiple protein types ranging from enzymatic motors to membrane nanopores.

You will be working alongside other scientists within the team and across the R&D department to deliver highly purified and characterised proteins for a variety of functions. This includes following established purification protocols as well as trouble-shooting and developing novel methodologies for all aspects of purification and testing.

What we’re looking for…

  • A BSc/MSc in a relevant scientific discipline (biochemistry, chemistry or related subject)
  • One to two years experience purifying proteins in industry or a post-qualification lab setting
  • A good working knowledge of recombinant protein expression, purification and subsequent characterisation
  • Hands on experience in working with AKTA systems and ability to troubleshoot expression and purification issues
  • Hands on experience in classical biochemical/biophysical protein characterisation techniques.
  • A knowledge of interrogating protein structure in silico for the design of mutant candidates would be beneficial

We are looking for applicants who can adapt quickly to new challenges and enjoy working with an agile approach to research!

You’ll be used to working meticulously and to a high standard, as well as being able to perform well under pressure. You’ll be used to meeting deadlines in a complex and fast paced environment.
