Trainee Nurse Associate

Job Description

The Nursing Associate training is a new role which will sit alongside existing nursing care support workers and registered nurses to deliver hands on patient care. The programme is delivered via an apprenticeship meaning you will receive a salary throughout your training and there are no tuition fees for you to pay to the university.

The programme is offered on a full-time basis only and is delivered via 4/6-month rotations within clinical areas of the Trust. These areas can be in both Preston and Chorley Hospital and there will also be community placements within the programme. Usually at least one day per week is a university-based study day. Ability to reach these areas for the start of shift/teaching time is essential for the duration of the 2-year programme.

During your training period you will be paid at Band 3 rate of pay and on successful completion of the programme will then transfer to a Nursing Associate Band 4 post within the Trust.

Once qualified you will be required to register as a Nursing Associate with the Nursing, Midwifery Council. You will be responsible for the provision of care for a cohort of patients under the delegation and supervision of a registered nurse, including assisting with the continuous assessment and evaluation of care, performing care risk assessments, assisting with admission and discharge process.

You will provide a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the team leader/nurse in charge including personal hygiene and comfort, vital signs and EWS, early recognition and escalation of acutely ill patients, meeting nutritional needs etc.

Essential for shortlisting is GCSEs Grade A-C in Maths and English or Functional Skills Level 2 and Level 3 health and social care BTEC or equivalent in health-related programme. Please document within the correct section of the application form that you have these essential qualifications.
