Job Description

We are looking for two enthusiastic, highly motivated, forward thinking person to join the Medicine Division as Assistant General Managers.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside dedicated clinicians to provide high quality care for patients through seamless multidisciplinary working in leading the departments within Medicine either Portfolio 1 which is made up of Respiratory, Rheumatology and Virtual Ward, Medical Day Case or Portfolio two which comprises Diabetes & Endocrine, Haematology, Renal, Oncology, Welcome Treatment Centre and General Internal Medicine.

We think Sherwood Forest Hospitals is a great place to work and receive care and in the next couple of years we will continue to focus on these three areas;

  • Working with partners to promote health and wellbeing and supporting people in their homes for as long as possible.
  • Providing safe, personalised care through our three hospital sites.
  • Working with partners to discharge patients in a safe, timely way.

Team Medicine at Sherwood Forest Hospitals is a large and diverse Division with over 1,100 colleagues and a budget of £93 Million. The Division strives to provide outstanding care across our three sites; Kingsmill, Newark and Mansfield Community Hospitals. Our services are comprised of the following; Cardiology, Dermatology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, Geriatric Medicine, Haematology, Neurology, Oncology, Renal, Respiratory, Rheumatology, Stroke and Virtual Ward.

You will work as part of triumvirate leadership teams with Heads of Service and Matrons to provide expert leadership, support and direction to complex clinical services in Portfolio 1 or Portfolio 2 listed above as well as being a key contributor to the strategic direction of the Medicine Division.

We would like a leader who is values based, forward thinking, has vision and will inspire their teams with their natural ability to influence. You will have a track record in operational management and service improvement, with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will understand the critical role of a leader in healthcare is to provide support, creating a culture and environment to allow clinical colleagues to flourish and provide the best care they possibly can.

As a Division, we provide a range of Inpatient, Outpatient care and key Diagnostics (Cardio- Respiratory and Endoscopy). In this period of elective recovery, whilst there remain considerable challenges across patient pathways, there are also significant opportunities for operational leaders to shape effective patient care across the Mid Notts place and indeed across the Nottinghamshire system. Several services such as Oncology, Renal and Neurology are delivered in partnership with Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH) and therefore the ability to shape strategic relationships is fundamental. In addition, the Trust’s Virtual Ward agenda sits within the governance of the Medicine Division, aiming to increase admission avoidance, thereby improving accessibility of services and patient experience.

Currently there are approx. 330 medical beds open across the three sites, fluctuating subject to seasonal pressures, which offer acute and rehab provision for SFH patients. It is imperative that as a Division we work closely with colleagues across the Trust to ensure optimum wrap around services are in place for the patients within our care. In this post you will provide a valuable operational lens, working with subject matter experts across our Medical, nursing, AHP and operational colleagues to ensure that we continue to provide innovative care in the right place and at the right time to improve the quality of patient outcomes.
