About the Organization
The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security (Dallaire Institute) was established in 2007 by retired Lieutenant-General the Honourable Romรฉo Dallaire, former Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR). Our mission is to develop new strategies and tactics to progressively end the recruitment and use of children as soldiers worldwide.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Communications and Public Relations Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication and public relations strategies to promote the organizationโ€™s mission, programs, and initiatives. The Communications and Public Relations Manager will manage media relations, create engaging content, coordinate public outreach campaigns, and enhance the organizationโ€™s overall brand and reputation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Implement a comprehensive communication and public relations strategy aligned with the organizationโ€™s goals and objectives.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with media outlets and journalists.
  • Develop and distribute press releases, media kits, and other communication materials to relevant media contacts.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization and coordinate media interviews and press conferences.
  • Create engaging and informative content for various channels, including the organizationโ€™s website, social media platforms, newsletters, and publications.
  • Write and edit press releases, articles, blog posts, and other communication materials.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Masterโ€™s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated related experience in communication and/or public relations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and platforms.
  • Strong storytelling and content creation abilities, with proficiency in writing for various mediums.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing and social media management.
  • Fluency in English.
Assets
  • Additional language skills, particularly French.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to childrenโ€™s rights, peace, and security.
  • Experience within the non-profit or international development sector.
