Reporting to the Global Architecture Director as a Junior Architectural Designer.

As part of Hatch Architecture, the role of a junior architectural designer involves working with other designers, technologists, CAD managers, and architects to successfully produce deliverables pertaining to the design and construction of building and facilities. They produce architectural deliverables during conceptual design, detailed design, and construction documentation. They require extensive supervision and guidance from senior staff.

 


As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Produce deliverables to illustrate conceptual, schematic, and detailed design including massing models, diagrams, and sketches.
  • Participate in the production of architectural construction drawing sets receiving direction from more senior architectural staff.
  • Assist with administrative tasks like setup of lunch & learn sessions, organize sample libraries, perform CAD work for office standards, collect and organize reference information, etc.
  • Produce graphic material for diagrams, isometrics and sketches of building components intended for design brief reports, presentation material, brochures, etc.

You bring to the role:
Essential:

  • Graduated from a post-secondary institution with a degree/ diploma in architecture, building sciences, architectural design, architectural technologists, etc.
  • Academic knowledge of space planning, building envelope design, interior design, and architectural design concepts.
  • Possess academic knowledge of architectural graphic standards, material technical standards and building codes.
  • Possess knowledge of the design systems of other disciplines such as, civil, structural, HVAC, electrical, and how they integrate with architectural work for the delivery of conceptual and construction projects.
  • Produced presentation material including sketches, details, perspectives, diagrams, and similar graphic representation by hand and/or with design software (Including Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Produced architectural drawings including but not limited to context plans, site plans, floor plans, roof plans, exterior elevations, interior elevations, sections wall sections, details, schedules, etc.
  • Worked extensively with two-dimensional drafting software for production of drawings such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.
  • Skilled with tri-dimensional modelling software such as SketchUp, 3ds Max, FormIt, Vray, Lumion, etc. to produce massing models, renderings, and animations.
  • Experienced with BIM modelling software such as Revit, AECOsim, OpenBuildings, ArchiCAD, etc. to produce construction drawings
  • Worked extensively with graphic design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.
  • Has working knowledge of administrative software such as MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, ProjectWise, MS Teams, Webex, etc.
  • Ability to learn new procedures, skills, software, and tools required to perform the work.
Preferred:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Worked with parametric design software for production of models with Rhino, Grasshopper 3D, etc.
  • Used software such as Bluebeam Studio to perform quality checks, interdisciplinary review sessions and mark-ups of documents.
  • Assisted construction administration tasks with documents such as RFIs shop drawings, samples, site instructions, site visits, change orders, bill of materials, cost estimates, etc.
  • Has performed design coordination with other disciplines in the production of conceptual, schematic, or detailed design.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work well in a team and individual environment. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
