The Position

As a Materials and Processes Engineer, you will be placed on a cross-functional team with the aim of executing design, integration, or testing activities. Each activity comes with its own set of challenges, however, our culture of collaboration is geared towards tackling these challenges straight on.

In design, you would be part of a team designing world-class robotics. We will equip you with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment to validate designs and to achieve mission requirements.

In testing, you will part of the team that ensures our products meet system requirements by planning and executing test campaigns. You will help design test rigs and work alongside the most experienced technicians in our industry.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

As our Materials and Processes Engineer, you will need to:

 

  • Work closely with a large multidisciplinary engineering team in order to solve technical issues related to Materials and Processes
  • Take part in design reviews/drawing reviews with development teams and others, when requested.
  • Research new technologies, processes, and materials for use at MDA.
  • Prepare and administer technical requirements of internal company processes/standards for both electrical/mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Prepare Declared Materials and Process Lists
  • Support new GEO and Lunar environmental material research and characterization challenges
  • Support department information standardization
  • When needed, work with manufacturing technicians and engineers to review /test setup/plans and participate in development testing.

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and/or Engineering
  • 1-3 years of post-graduate experience in Materials and Process Engineering or equivalent
  • Familiarity with military/aerospace industry standards such as ASTM, AMS, ISO, SAE, NAS, and MIL specs
  • Familiarity with parts selection for a new design, including an understanding of material properties, heat treating, corrosion, chemistry, application environment, and NDE (Non-Destructive Evaluation).
  • Understanding basic spacecraft requirements such as materials in vacuum and extreme environments would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques and limitations
  • Experience in working with program or project groups for technical discussions.
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written
  • Multi-tasking and task-prioritizing capability

 

 

Comments/Special Considerations:

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
