About Us

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Communication Sciences and Disorders), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, and four Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).

Responsibilities

The Multimedia Content Designer will support the strategic marketing and communications activities of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) through the creation of digital media assets that position FHS and its programs as global leaders. The role will assist with designing, creating, distributing, and assessing digital marketing and communications content, ensuring that messages are on-brand, articulated persuasively in social channels of strategic importance, and resonate with various audiences, with a goal of building and promoting Western’s Faculty of Health Sciences locally, nationally, and internationally. The role will protect, promote, and enhance the reputation of the University and its people by providing expert advice and guidance regarding digital communications and related projects that is consistent with all relevant University guidelines.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Community College Diploma in communications, marketing, digital media, public relations, journalism, graphic design
  • An undergraduate Degree in communications, media studies, marketing, public relations, video production, or a related program would be an asset

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in multimedia design
  • Previous experience in a marketing and/or communication role, successfully developing and implementing digital communications assets, social media strategies, content, and projects in a dynamic environment
  • Intermediate skills in the operation of various professional video, photography, and sound equipment
  • Experience in a post-secondary environment working with faculty members, researchers, staff, and other subject matter professionals on digital media projects is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated photography and videography skills, including production planning, scripting, filming plans, and related logistics with the ability to use photography and video editing software to tell a wide range of stories
  • In-depth knowledge of e-communication tools including websites, social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter), and graphic design principles
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, with editing programs (Adobe Creative Suite/InDesign, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro), content management systems (such as Cascade), and with file management and transfer systems
  • Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
  • In-depth knowledge of communications and marketing best practices, processes, trends, and tools relevant to student populations
  • Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
  • Compelling and persuasive communication and presentation skills to engage individuals and teams inside and outside the University
  • Ability to analyze metrics and consider past communications to craft engaging written communications using social media or other appropriate channels
  • Innovative and flexible critical thinking skills to adjust to and implement new processes or technology to the University’s advantage
  • Attention to detail and proofreading abilities
  • Discretion, tact, and maturity to deal with public relations issues related to higher education
  • Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the Faculty’s events and activities
  • Project management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure
