Job Description 

The Senior Manager, Social Impact Reporting and Communications is responsible for developing the strategy and leading the implementation of multi-faceted communication plans and company reports to position Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts as a CSR and healthcare leader. The Senior Manager oversees the development of all communications including internal communications, press releases and earned media opportunities, brand journalism stories, social media, website content and video production to promote our Corporate Citizenship initiatives and achieve business goals to attract, engage and retain talent and build company culture.

The Senior Manager, leads a small team, comprised of the Senior Manager and a Specialist, who are responsible for the project management, content development, and data collection and analysis of key internal and external reports and enterprise-wide associate community benefit programs to enhance Blue Cross’ reputation and achieve the company’s goals. He/she is the business lead for multiple technology platforms used to drive employee engagement and CSR data tracking and analysis; oversees vendor management, system maintenance, implementation, enhancements and support functions. The Senior Manager is responsible for high impact, time-sensitive, and complex communication projects to increase employee engagement and drive company culture that require coordination and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Accountabilities:
Set communications strategy and manage small team responsible for executing multifaceted, omnichannel communications plans to strengthen employee engagement and Blue Cross’ reputation as a responsible corporate citizen.
Lead and execute internal communications, executive talking points, press releases and earned media opportunities, brand journalism stories, social media, website content and video production to promote company’s highly visible Corporate Citizenship/CSR programs and initiatives.
Develop and implement a strategic framework and activation campaign for communicating and celebrating company’s thought leadership via storytelling, high profile speaking engagements, and external recognition; follow industry trends, best practices, and emerging regulations to inform ongoing strategy
Identify and expertly curate stories to build awareness and drive employee and community engagement.
Lead and participate in cross-functional communications committees representing Corporate Citizenship team and contribute content for CEO and Senior Leader remarks, signature internal events including Town Hall and Associate Luncheons, health justice convenings, etc.
Lead digital employee recognition campaign to strengthen company culture and attract talent by recognizing and celebrating employees who embody company values.; oversee nomination and selection process, collaborate with DE&I team, design and execute internal and external communication plan; partner with digital and marketing to launch website and social media campaign.
Lead and direct implementation of high impact, time-sensitive, and complex projects to increase employee engagement and drive company culture that require coordination and cross-functional collaboration (e.g, Intranet enhancements, environmental branding, website redesign); work closely with designers and Digital team to lead project progression and management and monitor and communicate progress.
Oversee and evaluate corporate-wide associate community benefit programs (e.g., employee workplace giving campaigns, employee assistance fund, dollars-for-doers program, etc.)
Oversee production of key enterprise reports (annual, regulatory, compliance, etc.) to enhance Blue Cross’ reputation and achieve corporate goals; set project schedule, work with subject matter experts to generate content; gather and analyze data; collaborate with designers and digital to set and implement design; manage editing and review process; partner with marketing to disseminate and promote reports externally.
Business lead for multiple technology platforms used to drive employee engagement and CSR data tracking and analysis; oversee sourcing, budgeting, implementation, vendor management, system maintenance, evaluation and support functions; manage governance structure and business process optimization.

Develops methodology to measure effectiveness of communications and ana lyzes and interprets data, designing approaches to address data findings, and re-directing approaches in an agile, real-time manner
Identifies and recommends new work methods, approaches, and processes to improve operational efficiency, in alignment with the company’s commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Develops and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.

Decision Making Authority:
Responsible to leader and to matrixed relationship for work performed cross-functionally.
Manages direct report (Social Impact Communications and Data Specialist) and project-based cross-functional teams.
Work requires independent problem solving and resolution.

Leadership Responsibilities:
Manages Social Impact Communications and Data Specialist
Represents Corporate Citizenship internally; liaises with Corporate Communications, Marketing, Digital, Sales, GRA, and other departments.
Represents company externally; collaborates with municipalities and community partners to promote and amplify partnerships.
Leads multiple cross-functional steering committees for development of key company reports and Corporate Citizenship initiatives including Annual Report, BlueWeb enhancements, and Service Day.
Coaches and mentors department and associates in cross-functional working relationships.
Works with executives and senior leaders, including CEO, via event and engagement planning and report production and review.
Business lead for multiple technology platforms.
Manages vendor relationships and serves as primary point of contact.

Qualifications (knowledge/skills/abilities/behavior):
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience and understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility, the Boston business community, and the not-for-profit community.
Experience and understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility/ESG reporting frameworks and the transition from voluntary to required ESG reporting
Strong professional presence and public speaking skills
Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to influence business leaders and external stakeholders
Strong project management, organizational and time management skills, including the ability to take initiative, effectively plan work activities, work independently, and prioritize multiple projects and assignments
Lead high-performing team of direct / non-direct reports
Ability to act as a team player and build relationships
Ability to effectively plan and facilitate meetings and workgroups
Strong independent thinking and decision-making abilities.
Ability to negotiate and manage vendor relationships.
Must have access to reliable personal transportation/ability to travel to and between BCBSMA sites, including travel to alternate locations external to BCBSMA, as required by job responsibilities.

Education/Relevant Experience:
BA/BS required. Masters in Communications, public policy or related fields preferred.
Minimum of seven years of communications, CSR, and/or community relations experience required.
Proven experience leading comprehensive enterprise projects

Minimum Education Requirements:
High school degree or equivalent required unless otherwise noted above

Salary Range: $110,610.00 – $135,190.00

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
