About Forbidden Mechanical
As part of the Meraki Family and founded in 2017, Forbidden Mechanical started its humble beginnings in the Comox Valley with only three mechanics to fill a service gap in the local industry. There was a great need for trusted and reliable commercial vehicle repair, and the folks at Forbidden Mechanical were determined to meet it.

As the company expanded, it maintained its commitment to providing the best customer service in the entire region. Quickly, its ranks grew to include 20 mechanics, 7 service trucks, and a full team of 30 people! Currently, Forbidden Mechanical offers a range of products and services that include on-site and mobile heavy-duty/commercial vehicle repair, A Traction heavy-duty parts store, diagnostics, welding & fabrication, sandblasting, mobile power washing, commercial transport, and many more!

About the Opportunity

Forbidden Mechanical is growing! We are currently looking for a full-time Service Manager, to join our team in Courtenay, BC.

This is a unique opportunity to live and work in one of the most sought-after communities in the province.

Reporting to the Store Manager you will be managing service department team members, including customer service interactions, reports, and repairs. You will also provide the highest level of customer service with a sales-minded attitude while developing lasting customer and staff relationships.

 

Your tasks include, but are not limited to:

 

Upholding and following Forbidden Mechanical’s Safety Management System
Ensuring all service employees understand the Safety program and their expectations within it
Making sure all service employees are trained, competent, and adequately supervised
Instructing staff on safety, recognizing unsafe work conditions, and modifying work procedures if required
Assuring that monthly safety meetings are held, documented, and filed
Developing a working knowledge of industry regulations, restrictions, and laws, and ensuring the service department adheres to all regulations
Continually ensuring the Company’s Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facility designation is maintained
Setting clear and challenging objectives for the business, communicating them, and developing plans to achieve them that are understood by all employees
Supervising direct and indirect reports to ensure company policies and industry best practices are understood and adhered to
Managing and directing work methods, personnel, production, scheduling, logistics, safety, operations, the fleet, and materials
Implementing procedures and processes to ensure that the business runs efficiently and effectively
Creating and managing reports and processes to ensure the service department is profitable and meeting or exceeding budget and KPIs for the department
Making sure the department is meeting its KPIs (Safety record, Profitability, Customer Satisfaction ratings, Recruitment and Retention of Employees, Growth of ServiceMobile departments)
Developing and implementing strategies to sustainably grow service and mobile departments. This includes creating cost-effective advertising programs and merchandising strategies to attract new customers and increase sales to existing customers

About You

To qualify, you will need 10+ years of experience in this field, with a deep understanding of the industry and a proven track record of success in leadership positions. The ideal candidate will have an extensive technical background with management training and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract. Previous experience as a service advisor and service manager is preferred.

The ideal candidate should be adept at communicating with tact and diplomacy. Furthermore, the candidate should have demonstrated an ability to hold the team accountable, make tough calls, and make difficult decisions when required.

 

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

 

Able to maintain department profitability while controlling expenses and maintaining customer satisfaction
Understanding of and compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations that affect operations, including hazardous waste disposal, and Worksafe BC regulations, and providing necessary training on these regulations and ethical behavior
Detail-oriented and capable of working under pressure with tight deadlines
Exceptional communication skills for dealing with peers, workers, clients, and contractors
A talent for balancing multiple projects and changing priorities while staying focused, planning, and meeting deadlines
Strong problem-solving skills as well as a keen analytical mind
Ability to balance cost control and quality with a strategic perspective
Demonstrated success in shaping organizational culture
Business acumen and sound judgment with a track record of making strategic decisions
