The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Cardiology of the Sinai Health System and University Health Network (SHS/UHN) are seeking to recruit a qualified Full-time Clinical Academic Cardiologist with expertise in electrophysiology. The successful candidate would fulfil the academic position description of Clinician Investigator and must be eligible for academic appointment at the minimum rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2024, or a mutually agreed upon date.
The successful candidate will have fellowship training in the following areas: autonomics and cardiac arrhythmia, pharmacology in cardiac electrophysiology, and application of basic and translational electrophysiological principles to the beside. The candidate will have appropriate experience or formal training in basic research in autonomic physiology, particularly a Masters or PhD, such that he/she/they will be able to develop and maintain a research platform. The candidate will have the training to establish/run the EP autonomics section to diagnose and evaluate patients with electrophysiological manifestations of autonomic disorders is essential. An interest and/or expertise in general non-invasive cardiac electrophysiology (e.g. ambulatory EP clinics, inherited arrhythmia clinic, pacemaker clinic, EP attending, EP consults, cardioversion) is crucial. The candidate will also be expected to work collaboratively to deliver high quality care to patients with autonomic dysfunction and significant comorbidity at the SHS/UHN.
The successful applicant must hold MD and FRCPC (or equivalent) qualifications in Cardiology and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario by the CPSO. A graduate degree relevant to basic science autonomic physiology or equivalent, and a proven record of excellence in research are strong pre-requisites. The successful applicant has demonstrated the capacity for independent academic activity in the field of Cardiology, and they are expected to advance the scholarship of electrophysiology as it pertains to the management of autonomic function. Scholarly excellence will be assessed by the presence of research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations at significant conferences, awards, accolades, and other related accomplishments.
Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Compensation will also depend upon the amount of clinical work performed but will be in the usual range for an experienced cardiologist in the Province of Ontario at approximately $250,000 to $300,000 (Canadian) per year.
