BILINGUAL DENTAL ASSISTANT

Permanent part-time position-17.5 hours  /week

Location: Welland

Hourly salary range:  $28.54 to $35.81 

Under the direction of the Primary Health Services Director, the Bilingual Dental Assistant provides fulsome support and assistance to the Dentist. The Dental Assistant works following the principles of health promotion and the determinants of health and assumes the following responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Assist the Dentist/ Hygienist and other providers with procedures and charting as necessary
  • Review the Dentist’s/ Hygienist’s schedule and help organize patient flow throughout the day
  • Review patient chart prior to Dentist’s intervention and anticipate their needs for each patient
  • Set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines
  • Perform efficient and accurate procedures to help maintain Dentist’s schedule and patient flow
  • Provide excellent customer service to help ensure a smooth and comfortable visit for the patient
  • Prepare and clean dental suite before and after treatment
  • Assist the Dentist in the preparation of individualized dental plans
  • Routinely sterilize, clean instruments and the suite after each patient and at the end of the day
  • Maintain electronic patient records
  • Assist the Dentist in workshops on oral hygiene principles and promotional activities presented at the CSC and in the community
  • Adhere to confidentiality, laws and guidelines with regards to patient records (e.g. PHIPA)
  • Recruit clients for various programs (for example Ontario Seniors’ Dental Care Program (OSDCP) –Ontario Seniors’ Dental Care Program)
  • Ensure treatment areas are fully stocked
  • Other duties may be assigned

 EDUCATION, SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  •  College diploma or equivalent
  • Registered Dental Assistant Certificate
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written bilingual communication skills
  • Experience working with AbelDent and OHISS
  • Cultural safety skills and proven competence in working with vulnerable seniors
  • Be willing to work flexible hours to meet client needs
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
  • Computer skills and the ability to learn new programs as required 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  •  Be willing to work flexible hours to meet patient needs
  • Have access to a motor vehicle and hold a valid Ontario driver’s license
  • Provide a clean Police Vulnerable Person Criminal Record Check (PVSC)
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (or medical ticket for exemption) will be requested at the time of hiring
