Freelance Designer/Illustrator

Min. Experience: 1-3 years

 

Alcove Press and Crooked Lane Books are looking for a creative, inspired book designer and/or illustrator. The position is for candidates who love to conceptualize and create book covers. They should be comfortable working in both crime fiction and book club fiction. Innovative thinking, speed, diversity of ideas, accuracy, and an eye for detail are the main priorities. Our cover briefs should be the jumping-off point for your creative and thoughtful design concepts.

 

About you:

• Ability to meet deadlines and follow and expand upon design briefs.
• Knowledge of the market, and ability to apply that knowledge in generating ideas and designs
• Creative, out-of-the-box thinking; inclination to go above and beyond initial prompts and ideas.
• Knowledge of typography, illustration, and photography.
• An online portfolio showcasing your best work.
• Experience working with multiple Adobe Creative Cloud programs: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator CC, and PDF export settings.
• Ability to create designs that are appropriate for both physical and digital versions of the book, and can translate into multiple formats.
• Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to execute multiple projects at any given time.
