In Sainsbury’s Business Services (SBS), we identify and remove complexity, cost and inefficiency from our business. We do all of this within the Transformation division, the engine for change at Sainsbury’s.


As the Head of Programme & Transition Management, you’ll be part of Sainsbury’s Business Services leadership team. Your mission will be to help increase business-wide efficiency, playing a key role in delivering transformational process change. You’ll do this by challenging and supporting the business to make the fullest use of our Shared Service Centres in Mumbai and Bangalore – leading the work from inception to completion.


You’ll be leading a team to deliver complex cross-functional business outcomes across Sainsbury’s, influencing up to the board level. The role combines a strategic focus alongside programme delivery, combining first-class stakeholder management and planning skills with a relentless and resilient desire to challenge the status quo.


To succeed in this role, you’ll be someone that can break down the bigger picture; reduce ambiguity; and be able to work at both a conceptual and technically detailed level. You’ll have excellent influencing skills right up to the board level and an ability to get the best out of people and bring stakeholders along the journey. You’ll be able to engage and inspire others around a challenging agenda.


In this role, you will

  • Be the key leader challenging and supporting the business to make the fullest use of our Shared Service: co-ordinating delivery across different divisions, challenging how things are done today to build a plan for a more cost-efficient and effective way of working.
  • Forecast roadmaps of programme timelines, ensuring a holistic capability view across people, processes and technology.
  • Be responsible for the identification and mitigation of divisional and corporate-level risks in relation to the activity delivered from the Shared Service Centres.
  • Be accountable for establishing, implementing and iterating the business-wide governance to ensure the successful delivery of our Shared Service Centre agenda
  • Lead a high-performing team of Senior Project Managers and PMO Lead, at times taking direct ownership of programmes of work that are sensitive or critical, and additionally, matrix managing an extensive number of functional teams of SMEs.


More about the successful candidate

  • Experience in managing large-scale transformation programmes at scale in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience or knowledge of Business Process Outsourcing.
  • Excellent skills in influencing senior stakeholders and leading a high-performing team to deliver high-impact change.
