As a Machine Learning Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing machine learning models and algorithms that enable key processes within BFS Treasury.

You will work closely with modelers and other key stakeholders to develop solutions that address complex business problems. You will also be responsible for evaluating and improving the performance of machine learning models and ensuring their reliability, scalability, and maintainability. You’ll have the opportunity to challenge the status quo and enhance the role of data-driven decision-making within Banking and Financial Services (BFS).

The role is in BFS Treasury. Within BFS Treasury we work on Funding, Liquidity and Interest Rate Risk Management, Capital, Provisioning & Risk Modelling. The team works in collaboration with the Product, Credit, Technology, Data & Platform, and Regulatory Reporting teams to optimize business opportunities within clearly understood and acceptable risk parameters. Our BFS Treasury team maintains close working ties with Macquarie’s central Risk Management Group and Financial Management Group.

What impact will you have?

You will drive better use of data, automation and quantitative models across BFS Treasury’s broad areas of focus, including responsibility for:

• Implementing predictive models
• Evaluate the ongoing performance of implemented models and identify solutions to optimise their performance to enhance scalability, reliability and performance
• Developing a deep knowledge of the data community within BFS
• Conducting complex analysis and reporting on results using a range of tools and methods
• Understanding and becoming familiar with product systems to identify the appropriate data to support in the development of models and forecasts
• Implement governance controls
• Collaborating with architecture teams, other modellers, operational risk teams, and Group Treasury to develop better solutions to business problems
• Exploring ways to enhance data quality and reliability through a range of tools and reporting
• Sharing knowledge with team members to embed data-driven decision making and automation best practice across BFS Treasury

About you

You will be a curious person demonstrating a growth mindset to ask “what’s new,” and “how can we do this better”. As a results-oriented individual, challenge doesn’t phase you but drives you further, jumping over any obstacles whilst taking your team with you over the hurdles.

This is a hands-on role for a self-starter with a problem-solving mindset. You will need the ability to work with large data sets and construct analysis in support of your conclusions. To be successful you should have:

• An educational background in Mathematics/Statistics, Computer science, Engineering or a related field
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, SQL, R, and/or C++.
• Attention to detail, learning mindset, flexibility and adaptability, high motivation and drive
• High numeric and analytical capability
• Experience with cloud-based frameworks such as AWS, GCP and/or Azure
• Experience with model evaluation and monitoring techniques
• Experience with Microsoft Excel
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to build collaborative relationships and influence peers and stakeholders
• It would be highly advantageous if you have experience with:
  • Version control
  • VBA
  • Shell scripting
  • Linux
  • Hive, Spark, etc
