Why does the job exist?
This position exists to participate in a team context in the design, development, deployment, testing, and documentation of new applications to support and pursue the Mission of the Department, and the maintenance, troubleshooting, support, and enhancement of legacy mission-critical and mission-supportive applications.
The position will produce functional, tested, debugged, documented code in an approved Environment Department coding language or low-code platform, that satisfies the requirements of each given new or legacy application prioritized for active development by the position’s section leader, to meet the needs and for the benefit of bureaus, programs, and offices within the New Mexico Environment Department.
How does it get done?
- Application development, via traditional coding or via low-code platform, and including much application and data source design and development
- Application maintenance, testing, debugging, fault analysis & troubleshooting
- Familiarity with core application development and database concepts.
- Team functions, such as strategic and tactical discussions regarding department assets and other issues
- Code and design reviews
- Applications specification and requirements gathering
- Perform some application hosting platform configuration and maintenance duties requiring knowledge of cloud platforms, virtual servers, web servers such as Tomcat and/or Apache, and server scripting and application deployments to include managing application configurations, document applications

- New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment.
- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies to include contractors, and environmental not for profit organizations.

Ideal Candidate
- Great communication skills
- Two or more of the following programming languages/platforms: PHP, Java, JavaScript, SQL, PL/SQL, PowerFx (Microsoft Power Apps), Coda.io.
- Developing one or more of: web apps, cloud hosted apps, mobile apps, or web applications involving Geographic Information Services (GIS).
- Configuring/administering either or both Apache web server, Tomcat web server.
- Oracle database, MySQL (MariaDB) database, another database platform.
- Utilizing, configuring and/or administering Microsoft Azure and/or the RedHat / CentOS distribution family of Linux.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in software programming. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.
