The Hamilton Health Sciences’ Communications & Public Affairs Department is responsible for the formal internal and external communications programs at Canada’s second largest research Hospital. Department responsibilities include corporate and workforce communications, reputation management, media relations, crisis communications, digital and social communications strategies, community and stakeholder relations, branding and marketing.

Reporting to the Vice President People, Culture & Communications, this role works collaboratively with leaders in the Communications and Public Affairs Department and throughout the hospital, to develop and implement community and government relations plans that support the advancement of hospital priorities, service development, and to respond to stakeholder, government and public relations needs.

Monday – Friday; days

1. Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business or a related discipline.
2. 10 years of related communications and public affairs experience.
3. Extensive knowledge of the Ontario provincial government’s health priorities organizations/programs/policies.
4. Extensive knowledge of the Ontario’s political, policy, regulatory and legislative frameworks related to health, science and innovation as well as the federal research and innovation ecosystem.
5. Extensive knowledge of role and function of municipal government in Ontario
6. Experience leading community engagement and relationship building activities in support of organizational priorities,
7. Proven project management experience.
8. High degree of tact, integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
9. Strong problem-solving, decision making, and analytical skills.
10. Superior ability to plan, analyze trends, and forecast activity, to exercise sound judgment, to work independently and well under pressure while balancing competing priorities.
As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Employee Health Services.
