The Market Research Analyst acts as an “in-house” marketing consultant to Vulcan’s field sales organization and corporate management. Marketing Support Services (MSS) provides a range of deliverables to assist the business in marketing decisions. This position is responsible for designing research, interpreting results, and making recommendations to corporate and division management regarding strategic planning, acquisitions, greenfield site selection, assessment of market conditions, and research for new business ventures. In addition, the analyst works as an internal marketing resource providing expertise and information to people at various levels within the entire organization.

Access to marketing tools and processes – MSS provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to marketing tools and processes not available in a division role.

Exposure to top management – MSS staff routinely works with corporate and division management.

Broadened view – This position can provide a broad enterprise view of Vulcan and the construction industry.

Preparation for other roles – This position can prepare someone for other marketing roles within Vulcan.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct desktop and field research to answer questions about demand, supply, construction market characteristics, industry information, or specific market intelligence. ·
  • Develop long-term demand forecasts for individual markets.
  • Assist in the development of sales forecasts by product line for AFE input.
  • Analyze data using VMC’s proprietary databases and tools such as SMART and GIS to provide market information to corporate and division management.
  • Research, compile and communicate information for corporate and division management strategic planning.
  • Create charts, presentations, reports, and maps as needed.
  • Design, conduct, and present research findings to corporate and region management.
  • Assist in support of initiatives lead by the VP of Marketing Support Services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 


Skills You’ll Need:

Education: BS degree, or equivalent, in Economics, Marketing, Business, Statistics or Engineering

Curiosity: Is curious about why things are the way they are. Doesn’t always accept canned answers. Delves deeper to get to the true answer.

Analytical: Is willing to dig into the data to find the information that can be used. Organizes complex information or problems so that solutions can be found. Tries to build quantifiable backup to support intuitive notions about markets or industry.

Can deal with Ambiguity: Can cope with data that is in conflict; can make a decision and act without having perfect information; isn’t upset when things are up in the air; doesn’t have to have all the answers or data before moving on. MSS must produce forecast with incomplete information. It is important that we document our assumptions and build as strong a set of data as possible to support our conclusions, but we must arrive at conclusions.

Creative: Advances new and unique ideas; easily makes connections among previously unrelated notions; settings; is viewed as having original ideas and is able to effectively brainstorm.

Think Strategically: MSS staff should have an enterprise view of the business and think beyond immediate local issues. It is extremely important to understand the local business, but we must keep the “big picture” in mind as we analyze situations.
